Data Collection Surveys

Understanding data flows within AIMPF: This page contains two surveys designed to capture essential information on data collection processes, equipment, and research projects to assist Contextualize on building the necessary infrastructure.

Data collection process is the foundation and probably the most important part of the data management platform. Among the data collection process the design of the data collection form for each machine/process is the first step which involves a lot of the discussion with the researchers that use this piece of equipment. Contextualize has been reaching out to AIMPF staff and students to gather the information outlined below, however, if at any point you would like to add, share, or discuss the Data Collection strategy, please do not hesistate to contact Contextualize.

Survey 1 (equipment Usage)

  • What piece of equipment is used?

  • Can you describe the process, steps?

  • What data is stored before, during, and after the experiment?

  • What is the data format (spreadsheet, docs, images, audio, simulation)?

  • Who is the upstream of the data flow, that is based on what data your experiment was designed?

  • Who is the downstream of the data flow, that is who will used your data for what purpose?

  • Information for every record include:

    • Operation ID

    • Date of operation

    • Duration

    • Operator

    • Notes

Survey 2 (Project Goals)

Contextualize will be responsible for updating a report for AIMPF summarizing the equipment, personnel, and projects for the whole research facility. Therefore, I am contacting almost every researcher asking for some very brief information about the projects they are involved in? The expected info at this moment include:

  • The title of the project: 1 sentence for each project

  • The objective: 1 or 2 sentences for each project

  • Collaborators and supervisors: no collaborators at current stage is not uncommon.

Some of the info will be used to generate a so-called data-interaction-map, which will serve as important reference data for the designing the user access on the data management platform.
